Student Grants
IGERT Fellows get an allowance for routine things, and can write "microgrants" (recruits, apprentices) and
"minigrants" (artisans, craftspersons) for things that are not
routine.
Allowance (this amount will be set by the co-directors; you just see the
coordinator to spend it).
Microgrants (limited to about $1,000 per request)
- support to attend a meeting in the U.S.
- support for some very minor need that exercises creativity (use your
allowance for routine things)
Minigrants are limited to about $10,000 per
request
- international meeting
- two-week visit to learn about or learn from another laboratory, anywhere
in the world
- small, curiosity-driven research project independent from the main
research
- request to support the main research (minigrants are the normal funding
mechanism for materials)
- construct a device for dual use in research and K12 outreach/community
service
