Our recent efforts in surface chemical modifications will be introduced first with low energy oxygen plasma treated polymer surfaces. Surface chemical groups analysis in terms of plasma variables and mechanisms will be presented, and subsequent surface aging will be examined with the methods of XPS and SFG. Then, the discussion will be extended to functional coatings to be used in endovascular MRI diagnostics, and non-specific binding of proteins on bare and treated polyurethane surfaces and phospholipids self-assembled gold surfaces.
