Modulated Differential Scanning Calorimetry (MDSC) allows one to obtain much more information about material thermal properties than conventional DSC, as well as to separate kinetic heat thermal effects from those related to heat capacity. Fundamentals of this technique are discussed showing similarities and differences to conventional DSC analysis. MDSC applies to any kind of material. Some applications to polymer characterization and processing are shown: measurement of weak glass temperature tansitions or those non-detectable by DSC, secondary crystallization during melting, more accurate crystallinity measurement and evaluation of structural changes in thermosetting systems.
